Kutchwork

Hi friends, I have very emotional attachment to this Kutch work.
This is the piece of rough cloth which my mother had practiced in to do Kutch work for my skirt.
I lost that skirt in the midst of a transfer and many house shifting. I got this piece of my mother's rough work when I was going through her stitching kit after she had passed away.

I could not ask her how to do this but the rough cloth in my hand got me curious.
I came across many videos on kutchwork and tried some myself and posted it in our Facebook group.
That was when I was guided by Pramila Sham Rao ma'am. She guided me  and taught me the right way to do it.
Chitra Gangadharan ma'am has put many posts in her blog jizee6687. wordpress.com
I owe my present skill to these three important talented people.
I am happy to be able to share this knowledge with all of you. I am sure my mother would have been very happy with my work.
I have completed the kurti I started with a small border.

Please check out my earlier posts on how to do basic squares.

Spider's web stitch.

Hi friends I will now explain how to do this stitch. First draw a circle. Take the needle in the centre and make eight lines.

Start with the cente and work around the circumference of the circle bt=y bring up the needle on opposite sides.

As you can see we have made eight lines as shown below.

Now again bring the needle up the cloth by piercing the centre point and move the needle under alternate lines like first round goes under lines no.1,3,5,7.

Next round goes under same lines till you reach the circumference of the circle.
Thus you get an embroidered version of a spider's web.

Kamal work in kurti - - 3

Now for the Centre I have used spider's web stitch.

I will explain how to do this stitch in a separate post.

As you can see I have done running stitch on the blue colour piping around the flowers using green colour thread. Then i have used red colour thread to weave around this running stitch just to beautify it a little more.

Kamal work in kurti - - 2

Sorry friends I had already finished the first petal by the time I realized that I had to explain the steps.

There are six vertical lines in a petal.we should move the needle under the lines without piercing the cloth.
so first we move under lines  1,3,5.
Then turn around the cloth and move under lines 2,4,6.Continue till the outermost lines are filled.
Now move alternatively between remaining four lines. That is first under 2,4.Then under 3,5.  Continue till only centre most lines are left out.
Now move under these two lines to fill them.

Kamal work in kurti - - 1

Hi friends, kamal work is actually an adaptation of spider's web stitch.
Today I stitched a kurti and thought I would add some colour to it by doing kamal work with contrast colour thread.
Here is the photo of the top. Now see what a little handwork can do.
Magic!!!

Don't you think it looks better now. I will now show you the transformation in steps.

I have traced  three flowers one below the other.Usually we use two strands of anchor thread to do this stitch.
First step is to take the needle and make six vertical lines starting from the base of each petal.
