Smart pouch

   Hi friends,                                                                                                                                                                      I want to share with you an idea of a pouch which can be used for a wallet for  daily purchases or as a pencil pouch by students. It has two pockets too.                                                                                You will need two pieces of cloth of dimensions 9"by 6".You will need lining cloth of same dimension. I have used two layers of lining to give some strength to it. For the pocket we need two pieces of measurements 8"by 5".                                                            I have used plain cloth so that I can do some handwork on it. You can used printed cloth too.

       So now for the procedure. First fix the two ends of the zipper of length 7 1/2".Just take two strips of cloth of width of an inch, long enough to make a fold and keep along the upper and lower edge of the zipper and put a stitch across the cloth.So now your zipper is ready.

         Now  fix the lining on to the right side of cloth and stitch along the edge of the opening side of the pouch.

Now we have to fold the lining into the wrong side of the main cloth and stitch along all the sides.

Now for the pocket,first fold the open side twice and stitch along the edge.Then keep both right sides facing each other and stitch along the three sides.

Now we need to keep the zipper along the finished edge and stitch it.

Now keep the pocket on one side of the pouch and stich along the three sides.Thus you get two pockets one the pocket itself and the other the gap between the pocket and the main cloth.

Now fold the pouch right sides facing each other and stitch along the three sides.And there you go. Your smart pouch is ready.

Laptop Sleeve

Hi friends, I got a chance to stitch a laptop bag for my daughter.I thought i could share the idea here.
It was pretty simple.

Things required:

              1. Cloth for the laptop bag. The dimensions i needed were 17" by  12" .So i kept an allowance of 3" each side since i used a georgette cloth owing to its flimsiness I had to keep extra allowance so that I could get the measurements right.
             2.Lining cloth of same measurements
             3.Padding for some strength and integrity to hold a heavy Laptop.
             4. A 15"zipper.
             5. Two  one inch wide piecec of cloth to stitch along the two edges of the zipper.
             6.A 6" wide piece of cloth of length 40"to stitch along the edge of the bag.    

          So once we have gathered all the required material  we need to keep the padding material which can be some light sponge or canvas in between the cloth and lining and stitch along the sides. This is basically done to fix the three together so that they do not move.I have done diagonal stitches   to get a quilted look.

        

So now for the actual stitching.

The length of the zipper is 17". Please follow my earlier post Small purse to see how to fix a cloth on both ends of the zipper. This makes working with a zipper easy as both ends are fastened. 

So there are two options either to use two such zips along the lengthy side or fix one along the shorter side. 

I chose the latter as smaller opening would give more integrity to the bag. 

So the total length of the shorter side of the laptop being 12" we have to accommodate 6"on the longer sides. So we centralize the zipper and mark 3"on the longer side. 

1.Take one side and fix the cloth with the zipper centralising the zipper so that we get 3" on either side along  the longer side. 

Measuring the rest of the sides to be covered with another piece of cloth, we have arrived at 40" length. 17*2=34 +12=46".From this the 6"of the zipper is subtracted giving us 40".

2. Now take the 6"cloth , fold into half to get a 3" cloth and stitch along the edge of the side, thus covering the raw edge .So thus we have finished one side of the bag which has the zipper along the width so that we can easily slide the laptop in.

3. Now repeat for the other side. 

4. Your laptop bag is ready.

Since we have given a joint at he sides so the laptop can fit in easily with the mouse and charger.You can fix handles too along the side either as a long sling or two small one to carry around.
