Buttonhole stitch can also be used in a decorative manner for neckline or simply as a border.
I have tried a few of them.
I have tried a few of them.
First a normal buttonhole stitch is done.
Then another similar stitch is made just next to the first one but of bigger length.
The same process is continued as per your wish, the condition being that the next stitch is longer than the one before.
The stitch is completed by maintaining symmetry. Just as you reach the length you require you have to make the next stitches shorter than the one before so that by the time the stitch is complete we end with with the length we first started with.
I have used this stitch on a neckline of a dress.
Another variation of buttonhole stitch is where two rows of stitches are done facing each other.
Another variation is called BUTTONHOLE WHEEL STITCH.
First like in all other stitches we have to fix the thread to the cloth.
Wind the thread around the needle.Pull out the needle and work consecutive stitches from the same point.
The stitch is done from the same point giving it a wheel like liik, hence the name.
If you see the orange coloured portion then it gives a look of a wheel.
Now the yellow portion look like semicircles, dont they?
Now we have the final look of the stitch on the design.I have used the same stitch for the leaves too giving the an upturned heart shape. For the stem I have used Back Stitch.
Detatched buttonhole stitch
------------------------------------
This is another variety of buttonhole stitch. It can be used to fill a design.
In this stitch first the outline of the basic design is done using chain stitch.
Then we work normal buttonhole stitch by weaving the needle through the earlier stitch.
That is the first buttonhole stitch is done by passing through the chain stitch. The needle is taken through the chain stitch.
Then the thread is wound around the needle and the needle is pulled out thus forming a buttonhole stitch.
Thus the design is filled with a web of buttonhole stitches.
Now you can see that I have chosen the yellow colour thread to fill the petals of the flower.
I have filled the petals moving from left to right and right to left alternatively.
To further enhance the design I have used red coloured thread for one row of Detatched Buttonhole Stitch on the outer outline of the design.
Since the web of buttonhole stitch is done without piercing the cloth with the needle so it is called DETATCHED BUTTONHOLE STITCH.
