Kutchwork four square motif - First square

For clarity I thought of using my present project for posting the tutorial.
As you can see the four squares for the work.
The first step is to fix the thread on to cloth at a point slightly away from the edge of the square.
As you can see we are working in a clock wise direction.
If we keep the thread under the needle then it will give us the next location where the next stitch is to be done.

At this edge a small stitch is made by inserting the needle at a point away from the edge of the square  and bringing it out at the edge of the square.

From the picture you can see that the next stitch is done at the next square . Technically this is the second square but we will be finishing this one first.

Now we move on to the next edge of the square following the same rule.
This is the third edge of the first square.

The first square is finished when we move under the existing thread between the squares.
To finish the first square completely we have to do the first stitch of the second square.

I will put the pictures for the second square in the next post.
